Jamie was born in Ditchling and educated locally. He joined the National Youth Theatre in 1984 and has since had a very varied and interesting career as a presenter of a range of programmes, both on radio and television. He has also acted on television and on the stage.
On radio he presented, among other programmes, ‘Sportscall’ for Radio 5 Live and the ‘Jamie Theakston Cricket Show’.
On television, amongst numerous other programmes, he hosted ‘Top of the Pops’ and ‘Live and Kicking’. He has also acted in the West End in the plays ‘Art’ and ‘Home and Beauty’.
He was, for those of you who are cricket fans, captain of Ditchling Cricket Club and was a member of the first cricket team from England to play the Afghanistan National Cricket Team in Kabul.
Jamie is a keen supporter of Oxfam having visited Uganda in 2003 to meet with former child soldiers. He now lives in London with his wife Sophie Siegle and their two sons. Hopefully we may see them all in the audience at the Village Hall at some time in the future.
